Interested in recording yourself? Jim Bonnefond, one of the TUF crew of helpers, has a wealth of experience.
Jim’s career in the music industry spans over 3 decades. His credits are diverse and encompass work on over 100 albums, running the gamut of musical styles from R&B to Pop.
Jim began his career as a recording engineer working with artist such as Meatloaf, Dr. Buzzards Original Savannah Band, and Robert Fripp (King Crimson), and then as a Producer for Kool and the Gang, Jimmy Cliff, and John Oates (Hall and Oates).
Jim’s work with Kool and the Gang yielded 6 gold and platinum albums. After engineering their #1 hit, ‘Celebration’, Jim became involved in song writing and has co-written, as well as engineered and produced many of their hit songs, including ‘Cherish’ and ‘Fresh.’ As a co-writer of the hit song, ‘Joanna,” Jim won the BMI Song of The Year Award. His Australian credits include The Cockroaches (The Wiggles), 1927, Gyan, Grant McLennan, Euphoria, Directions in Groove (DIG), Graeme Connors, and Savage Garden. He has been awarded more than 20 Gold and Platinum RIAA certified records for his work as a producer and engineer.
Jim has a Masters Degree in teaching and has lectured in the area of Music Technology at SAE (Nashville, New York City, Byron Bay) and Institute of Audio Research (New York City) and, until recently Professor of Music Technology at University of New Haven in Connecticut.
He is available for recording, mixing, and producing, with a special passion for recording vocalists. He's done a few album projects where he's shared the engineering with the artist, teaching the art of recording in the process. Obviously, this is great for someone who wants to record their music and learn how to do it at the same time, without spending 20k to attend an audio school.
